About Us

OUR MISSION

Mill & Mooch was founded in late 2020, motivated by the desire to bring the simplicity and beauty of nature into every home.

Through many years working as an Interior Horticulturist in NYC, Mimi developed a strong appreciation for natural materials, and the need for us to reconnect with nature on a day-to-day basis became undeniable. Thus became the inspiration, and driving force of all Mill & Mooch creations.

Delivering quintessential homewares, Mill & Mooch pieces are consciously created to ensure the most luxurious and sensational products that will stand the test of time. Designed to be both practical and eye-catching with the natural colors and textures of the wood being the central focus of each piece.

Skillfully hand crafted using classic turning methods and primarily utilizing exotic hardwood off-cuts from musical instrument makers, we are able to create totally unique pieces and ensure no part of the tree goes to waste.

Mill & Mooch pieces are always unique and one-of-a-kind, with little to no design decisions made before placing on the lathe. By listening to our intuition and connecting to the wood, we allow each piece to guide us to its final form.

MEET THE MAKER

Mimi is a self-taught woodworker, growing up in South London and spending the past 14 years in New York. She first stepped in front of a lathe in late 2020 during a Christmas vacation back home and soon uncovered a hidden passion that spoke to her soul, spending every available moment wood turning and rediscovering what felt like lifetimes of knowledge and experience.

A few years before working with a lathe, Mimi started creating plant hangers in her Brooklyn apartment made from scrap wood and metal chain. This came from pure necessity, living with 140+ plants in a small apartment where space was limited. It was through this project that her love for working with wood was ignited.

In Spring 2022, Mimi returned back to London to dedicate all her time and attention into building the brand. Since returning, Mill & Mooch has been growing and developing beautifully, fueled by a deep devotion to the craft, an eagerness to learn new techniques and a raw natural talent.

Since achieving Reiki Level 2 certification in 2019, Mimi has been incorporating her energetic practice into all pieces from conception to final product. Mill & Mooch Incense Burners are intentionally infused with healing Reiki energy to continuously radiate positivity, balance and love.

SUSTAINABILITY, FINISH & APPEARANCE

Mill & Mooch creates pieces using exotic hardwoods from all corners of the earth, as well as classic British hardwoods.

We primarily work with suppliers of musical instrument makers selling their off cuts, allowing us to create totally unique pieces and ensuring no part of the tree goes to waste, sourcing our timber from certified suppliers to guarantee the exotic and domestic wood we use is always procured ethically and sustainably.

At Mill & Mooch we use only the highest quality, natural waxes, oils and wood butters for our pieces, with all finishes being non-toxic and food-safe. We value the natural beauty of each piece of wood we use to create our products, never using any dyes or pigments to alter its colouration. We finish each Mill & Mooch creation by laser engraving our classic logo onto the underside of the piece.

Being hand-made from natural materials, small imperfections and irregularities may occur. We intentionally keep these natural irregularities to align with the rhythm of the wood.
